Teen Leader School, Wilderness First Aid and Search and Rescue Summit
Ages 14-18
Tuition: $1200.00

Gain valuable leadership skills through the outdoors that are applicable to all facets of life — school, jobs, community and home, as well as travel in the mountains and on lakes and rivers. Earn certification in Wilderness First Aid and Search and Rescue. This is an intensive summer camp learning opportunity for uber motivated teens that focuses on learning to care for others in times of need. Participants will learn and practice leadership skills while also developing and practicing important first aid, search and rescue skills such as patient assessment, management of shock, heat and cold injuries, wounds, shock and much more. They will learn basic principles of search, litter handling and basic litter rope work. Each day mountain leaders take on various leadership responsibilities and teach each other important wilderness skills such as proper preparation and dress, navigation, Leave No Trace fires and shelters, campsite set-up, natural history, water treatment, meal preparation, and emergency procedures. A major focus of leader school is building good expedition behavior – communication, problem solving, and building / maintaining trust among group members. Successful expeditions depend greatly on the contributions of each team member. Participants over the age of 15 may earn an official certification in Wilderness First Aid from Wilderness Medical Associates as we as achieve a basic searcher credential from Maine Search and Rescue. All of this while hiking, climbing and paddling in the mountains of Maine.
