The Young Explorers’ Climbing Camp is a unique opportunities for 9 – 12 year olds to who like to rock climb to immerse themselves in a focused climbing camp. Campers may choose either a day camp or overnight camp format. Besides getting a lot of time on the rock, campers will learn important rope skills like knots, belaying and rappelling. Emphasis will be on individual, partner and group safety throughout the week.

When the body tires of climbing there will be time for swimming, hiking and learning outdoor skills such as animal tracking or map and compass skills.

A great week of focused climbing activity that is sure to raise your climbing skill level in a major way.  No previous experience is necessary. Climbing gear is provided. Limit: 12.

RAINY DAY OPTIONS Generally we try to proceed with planned activities for the day unless there is lightning danger or a major storm. Should weather preclude continuing with the day's activities we can visit the climbing wall and swimming pool at the local YMCA or spend a few hours indoors bowling.

We run a convenient daily shuttle between Orono and Bar Harbor for this camp. The schedule will be as follows:

Morning pick ups and afternoon drop offs will be in Orono (at 92 Main St, Alpenglow Adventure Sports) at 7:30 and 5:30, Brewer at 8:00/5:00 (at Brewer Auditorium parking lot), Ellsworth at 8:45/4:15 (at McDonald’s parking lot), and Bar Harbor at 9:30/3:30 at Acadia Mountain Guides, 228 Main Street.
